Abstract: This book is about the life of Gilbert Greyson. Gilbert has just been informed by his mysterious that he cannot complete school past the current term. Gilbert goes to see his guardian, Richard Briggs, in New York and is told that he has no more money, and that he must work for a living. Gilbert enters the business world at the Stock Exchange but has many different problems. He endures his troubles and never gives up and is rewarded. Gilbert's diligence is contrasted with the behavior Randolph Briggs, his guardian's son, who is neither hardworking or frugal.
